Anyone who knows me will expect me to put Bejeweled Blitz at number one. But our list of the 10 best Facebook games has been compiled using real data (collected by appdata.com) of the most used Facebook apps over the past month. Chances are your favourite Facebook game will not be on our list, but the Facebook massive has spoken. Here are the 10 best Facebook games of June 2014. Follow PC Advisor on Facebook.

Quick tip: One of the things that really annoys me about Facebook games is their tendency to post achievements to your profile. And my boss really doesn’t need to know that I’m playing Facebook games on a Friday afternoon (although today I have a pretty good excuse). However, if a game insists on posting to your News feed, it’s a simple task to switch the permissions so that only you can see those posts. Also see: 13 best Facebook tips and tricks.

First click the downward-facing triangle at the top right of the screen and choose Settings. Find Apps in the left pane, then scroll to the game in question. Click Edit to the right, then choose ‘Only Me’ in the ‘Visibility of app’ field. You’ll also get the chance to set this permission the first time you play a game.

1. Best Facebook games: Candy Crush Saga

Candy Crush Saga

I was a huge fan of Candy Crush Saga until I got stuck on level 347, then I really quickly got bored (read my Candy Crush Saga review). Even if you’ve never played it, if you’re a Facebook user you’ll have heard of this one. But before you block those annoying Candy Crush Saga requests, give it a spin. Candy Crush Saga is a match-three (or more) puzzler that’s deliciously addictive. As with any game of its genre, you match like sweets in a line of three or more to gain points and bonuses. Each level is slightly different, whether you have to get rid of all the sweets encased in jelly within a certain number of moves, achieve a certain point-score within a given amount of time, or drop the various ingredients for a tasty recipe to the bottom of the grid. It requires a degree of logic that keeps you entertained through Candy Crush’s many hundreds of levels.

2. Best Facebook games: Farm Heroes Saga

Farm Heroes Saga

Match-three puzzlers are incredibly popular on Facebook, and the top two games this month are of this genre. Farm Heroes Saga swaps sweets for something altogether more healthy – apples, strawberries, oranges and other fruits – but the premise of the game is the same, with you having to match certain items before time or the number of moves runs out. That’s not all that surprising, given that Candy Crush Saga and Farm Heroes Saga are both King.com titles, although here you get the added benefit of boss games and Hero modes.

3. Best Facebook games: Pet Rescue Saga

Pet Rescue Saga

Third in the list is yet another entry from King.com, Pet Rescue Saga. This one’s a little bit different: rather than swapping gems to match three or more you must click on coloured blocks to get rid of the lot either in as few moves as possible, or to rescue pets trapped on top of these colourful towers. Who needs the Fire Brigade when their cat is stuck up a, erm, tower? Actually, they could be lions. Odd-looking cats.

4. Best Facebook games: Dragon City

Dragon City

This one’s cute. In Dragon City it’s your job to build up a city in which your dragons can live, then feed them up and encourage them to breed. Your aim is to create as many weird and wonderful dragon combinations as possible, matching Fire and Water dragons and so forth, then visiting your friends’ dragon cities and gloating over who’s the better dragon breeder. Later in the game you’ll find dragon battles, too. Clearly a winner.

5. Best Facebook games: Trivia Crack

Trivia Crack

If you know everything about everything you’ll love Trivia Crack. It pairs you against one of your Facebook friends or a random Facebook user, then asks you to spin a wheel to select your subject, for example history, geography or science. You then get 30 seconds to answer a question, for which there are four possible answers. If you get it right you get another question, get it wrong and it’s your opponent’s turn. Unfortunately we do not know everything about everything, so moving on…
